Moneragala Letter 220

Pahalagama,

Okkampitiya

28.08.2012

Dear sister,

I lived with my parents in Bandarawela. I studied up to A/Ls. On 05.02.1992, I got married. My husband’s home town was Okkampitiya. I have one child. We were famers. My husband was a very kind man. We had no other worries, other than the financial problems. The war was going on, but we were not much affected. But, suddenly, the tragedy of my life  began to unfold.

I don’t want to recall that unfortunate day. On the  16th January 2008, my husband and I went to the chena with two other friends to remove the cashew nuts from the shells. My husband and other two were shot dead by the LTTE. They didn’t do any harm to me. Now my son is studying in the Bio Science stream in the Advanced Level class. Without a husband, we live amidst lot of financial problems.
